Young at Heart Club
The Young at Heart Club is a program that is meant to encourage prospective dog owners that senior dogs are worthy of a loving home and to discover the joys and benefits of owning a mature dog.
The goal of the Young at Heart Club is to ensure that the golden years of every one of our senior dogs are happy and safe and that they know that they are loved. Many people are reluctant to adopt a senior dog because they fear that their time with your new best friend will not be as long as they would like. But the privilege of loving a senior dog makes every single day special, as you and your companion share love, friendship and a special relationship that grows stronger with the knowledge that you have given this wonderful dog a happy life.
To qualify for the program, potential adopters must participate in the shelter's usual adoption screening process.
For adoption information, contact Anderson Animal Shelter at (847) 697-2880, or e-mail us at neuteryourpets@andersonanimalshelter.com. Please include the dog's name and a note that he or she is a member of the Young At Heart Club in your e-mail message.

Male - Black Labrador Retriever Handsome Calhoun was found as a stray with his brother Calvin. This dynamic dual would love to go to a new home together, but would be happy with another dog to hang with or as an only dog. At 8 years young, Calhoun is still full of energy and spunk and would love a home where he can go for walks and maybe play a game of fetch. If you think you would like to add this silly senior boy to your family stop by the shelter and meet Calhoun. |
Male - Pit Bull Terrier[Mix] Hi my name is Scarlette and I'm a dainty 8 year old girl looking for a loving home to call my own. I'm social when meeting new people and I love to give kisses. I enjoy long walks and I don't pull on the leash. I also fancy a good chew toy, particularly kongs stuffed with treats and peanut butter. I'd prefer to be the only animal in the home where I can get your full love and attention. |

Male - Black Labrador Retriever This friendly and good looking boy was found as a stray with his brother Calhoun. The pair would love to go to a new home together, but would be happy with another dog to hang with or as an only dog. 8 years young, Calvin has the energy of a much younger dog and would enjoy a home where he can go for walks and maybe play a game of fetch. If you are looking for a handsome and sweet dog to add to your family, then stop by the shelter and meet Calvin.

Male - Pug Doh! My name is Homer and I don't know how I ended up at the shelter. What I do know, is that I am one friendly guy and, even though everyone here takes great care of me, I am ready to go to a loving home of my own. Since I'm a bit up in years, the staff at the shelter decided I would be a great candidate for a foster home so now I'm living in a temporary home with other dogs, cats, and some great humans too. I hate to brag, but everyone who meets me thinks I'm a pretty irresistible guy; I'm not sure if it's my good looks, friendly demeanor, or the silly noises I make, but something about me just makes people smile. Now don't go feeling sorry for me, but unfortunately I am blind. However, that doesn't stop me from being a great companion. |
